{October 25, 2005}   Tasha’s Top 10 Trends for Fall 2005

Trends can be overwhelming since they come and go before you have the chance to wear your favorite new piece a second time. Not to mention the fact that fickle trends can wreak havoc on your wallet. So I have composed a list of my top ten picks for fall 2005 trends. When you choose a few essential pieces you can rotate the trends and create a fresh look every time you dress.

Tasha’s Top 10 Trends for Fall 2005

  1. You Stud…Metallic studs are undeniably everywhere this season. From studded tank tops, and oversize handbags to platform heels and Harley-style boots. Metallic studs have embellished all forms of attire. I’m drawn to this look because it can take a once lady-like shirt and turn up the heat when lavished with metal studs. It has the ability to dress down an outfit and give the I-don’t-care-cool-attitude. Yep, I think that’s it…studs are all about attitude.

  2. Belts are Heading North

This has been a long time coming..and I’m so glad it has finally arrived. Belts are back at the waist rather than slung low on your hips. This is fabulous for two reasons. First and foremost because this placement creates the perfect hourglass figure (whether you were born with it or not). It creates deep curves and a tiny waist reminiscent of the glorious Audrey Hepburn days. The look is proper and classic but womanly and sexy. And the second perk to having these belts back where they were originally designed for, is that now vintage shopping for belts makes a whole lot more sense. Ever walk into a thrift store and pick up a belt which reads yours size but refuses to reach around your hips? And even if you can buckle it way down low, it continues to shimmy up to your waist. Well now you can raid the thrift shops and rummage through flea markets to find belts that fit your waist and flatter your figure.

  3. The Elongated Necklaces Still ReignLong necklaces continue to have a strong presence in accessories this season. The varieties are endless but the common denominator is that they fall at or below your chest.
    • Wooden beads are now worn in layers or paired with another more delicate necklace (often gold).
    • The horn tusk necklace, well liked by celebrities and fashion lovers alike. The tusk charm varies in material from stone/jade, ivory, plastic, or metal. This necklace may include a single tusk or a cluster of charms that showcase the trendy piece.
    • The peacock feather necklace is an extension of the summer Bohemian craze and has become an exotic favorite. It takes the boho feel but adds some upscale details forming a new, even regal look.
    • The charm necklace, although a variation of this returned last year, the new charm necklace does not lock charms onto individual links evenly distributing them around the chain. This season the charms hang together at the end of a long chain. The charms are a mixed collection from lockets to trinkets.

  4. Pure Velvet Attire Velvet is the material of choice this season particularly when it come to blazers and pumps. The posh fabric is great for autumn since it is a heavy material rather then the wispy gauze of the summer. Velvet reminds me of the holidays (maybe because of all the horrid dresses I was forced to wear as a kid..) but it seems only right that with the change of the season, velvet made a strong entrance.

  5. Proud as a Peacock
Peacock blue is the color of the season and I can’t seem to get enough of it. The shade is a perfect blend between blue and green, but far from teal. (Are you with me?) It’s dark, it’s saturated and it’s necessary. This color flatters every skin tone from Snowhite to Brazilian-bronzed. So whether it’s a bag, jacket or scarf, try to work in a touch of this brilliant blue.

  6. Black is BackNot that it roamed far, since everyone even the slightest bit interested in fashion knows that black is a staple that will always exist. But critics have tried to convince us that black is boring and we should put it on the shelf and dabble with some color. Well, not this season. Feel free to indulge!! We all know that black is slimming (points for that!), but it is also a very sophisticated color (so much so that I was actually forbid to wear black as a child). Well now, I find myself draped in it. It’s mysterious, sexy and goes well with everything, even brown if worn correctly. So wear it in pieces or wear from head to toe (just be sure that the blacks match) because black is here to stay.

  7. The Military Jacket RanksThis looks particularly cool when the jacket is snug. The military styles of the season show both cropped jackets and blazers that hug your silhouette. Regardless of the cut, the tailored lines and symmetrical buttons make this military style jacket all the rage.

  8. Buddle Up with a Fur VestWhether it is faux or genuine, the fur vest has made my top ten list. Fur is an instant way to glam up an outfit and has become appropriate for both eveningwear and jeans. And because it’s meant to be worn as outerwear the fur vest can be worn over a t-shirt or dress for a casual (but toasty) look for the autumn season.

  9. The Romantic Victorian EraHigh collars and lace trim have added some romance to this season’s racks. It’s prim and proper and works well with the velvet trend. But if the buttoned- up frills is just not for you then try to dig up the cameo your grandmother gave you that you’d swear you’d never wear. That’s right, cameos are huge this season and are not limited to the breast of a cashmere sweater or to fasten a silk scarf around your neck. Cameos have a classic appeal but can benefit from a twist. Clasp it to your newsboy cap or even add it to your long charm necklace.
  10. A Mural of EmbroideryWe could have guessed jeans were headed in this direction from the patchwork hippie-inspired jeans of summer most notably from True Religion. Well, they have evolved yet again. This season, jeans are less distressed without the giant tears and loose strings, but rather structured and detailed with artistic embroidery. The rips would only act as a distraction to the colorfully stitched patterns which, is clearly the eye-candy of the jeans. Whether it’s words, flowers, or faces, cloth murals have been worked into these exquisite jeans.
